Petit Verdot 2011
This is our third vintage of this under-appreciated Bordeaux varietal, and it once again hails from the Forchini vineyard, just to the north of the winery. It is uncommon to find this as a varietal wine, and that’s mostly due to the overbearing tannins which are key attribute of this grape. But this vineyard produces a very refined and balanced Petit Verdot: a sweet and creamy profile, with blackcurrant and spicy baked-cherry notes backed up by subtly sweet oak tones. The mouthfeel is fine-grained and smooth, which is unusual in this inherently tannic variety, and it finishes well. Echoes of cocoa powder and black cherry go on and on.
