Pinot Noir 2011 A2
Just as in 2010, the extraordinarily cool 2011 vintage produced very light crops in two of our prime Pinot sources (Peters and Sapphire Hill vineyards), and the yield was so tiny that Rick decided to blend the resulting wines into one stellar bottling! The Sapphire Hill component is about half the blend, and it contributes classic Russian River fruit character. The Peters Vineyard lends its minerality and complexity, and the resulting synergy is one of Rick’s best Pinots. The Pommard and “777” clones from these two “A+ “ sites work magically together in this memorable wine. This gem is deep ruby/garnet in color, with complex aromas of rosewater, orange blossom and mineral. The flavors are reminiscent of tart cherry with a touch of raspberry. The overall impression is very Burgundian, and very food-friendly. The fruit character is bright now, but this wine will develop nicely for the next several years.
