Our third vintage of Aglianico (pronounced ah-YAH-nee-koe) has the same zesty character that garnered our 2011 a Double Gold and “Best Aglianico” at the San Francisco International Competition last year, while being quite a bit bit riper and richer in texture. This dark garnet-red wine is spicily aromatic, with notes of peppercorn and sandalwood that open to bright red berry. It is medium-bodied, with fine-grained drying tannins, and a lively tartness that works brilliantly with a variety of dishes. The wine’s flavors follow true to its aromas, and tend toward red fruit, with a leafy note on the finish.  Delightful pairings include pasta with red pepper flakes and olive oil, followed by roast lamb, beef or goat.

A perennial Amphora favorite, our Barbera is consistently  characterized by savory and dark fruit notes both in aroma and flavor. This Barbera shows a clean earthiness, which seems to be a characteristic of this vineyard across several varietals. The meaty, leathery aspects are quite Italianate, though the mouthfeel is Californian with nice brightness and moderate tannins. It’s very approachable and inviting, with a long, lush finish.

Our fifth vintage of Teroldego (pronounced 'tey-roll-day-go'), an exceedingly rare northern Italian varietal, shows a unique and seductive profile: deep black purple color, supple texture, and intriguing aromas of blackberry and old rose. Its flavors tend toward black fruit: canned blueberry, blackberry, pomegranate syrup and a hint of Australian licorice at the end.  The lingering finish trails off with cassis and dark plum. Amphora is one of perhaps only ten wineries in California to produce a Teroldego, but with its alluring character, we would not be surprised to see more of these vines planted in coming years...
